Two sets of hands working on a woodwork project

Want to make and create woodworking projects, but don't know where to start?  Do you feel daunted by home improvements and repairs because you feel intimidated by the tools?  Or, do you just need a bit of a refresh on tool use and skills?

Join us in Hunt Country's historic barn for this one day Make-It-Take-It workshop.  DJ Kitzel will introduce you to, or refresh you on, the basics of woodworking processes.  You will be guided in the use of basic hand and power tools while crafting your own rustic bench.  You'll leave feeling more confident and capable of tackling projects on your own.

Program:

Saturday morning will include introductions, course overview, expectations, and safety tips.  Then we will get right into the project by 10am.  Instruction will be a combination of lecture, demonstration, and hands-on work to identify tools and their uses, practice skills, and construct a wood bench.

D.J. will provide instruction, all tools needed, materials, and advice on your upcoming projects.

Please bring your own safety glasses, workgloves, and any tools in your personal collection you would like to use.

Food & Libations:

We suggest you enjoy a hearty breakfast before arriving at Hunt Country.

Catered Lunch: Included and provided.
* Please let us know of any food restrictions and we will do our best to accomodate.

Snacks: There are picnic items available to purchase in our tasting room, but please feel free to bring your own snacks if you feel you might need them before or after lunch.  Hard work and learning can make a person more hungry than usual.

Hydration: Hydration is a requirement of hard work.  We will have cold mint water available to you all day.  Please bring a water bottle to refill throughout the day.  We also have refreshing beverage options for purchase in our tasting room.

Wine: An end of day glass of wine is included in your registration fee.  Wine tastings, wines by the glass or bottle, and local beer are also available for purchase.

Instructor:

D.J. Kitzel has taught basic woodworking for 27 years and enjoys seeing his students become empowered to create on their own.  He is a stonemason, certified English teacher, and licensed wilderness guide with 34+ years of experience in the building trades.  He has worked on historic structures and new builds across Rochester and the Finger Lakes region while pursuing a life-long interest in these traditional trades.
